RSVP: Going.com I had the chance to talk with the uber talented Daniel Saynt, the creative mastermind (and owner) behind Fashion Indie. Read on for more Fashion Indie goodness: Shannon: What made you decide to make the leap from blog to print magazine? Daniel: Print seemed like a natural extension of the Fashion Indie brand. We had already conquered the web with the number one site for independent fashion and we knew that in order to gain accreditation in the glossy obsessed fashion world, wed need to go to print. Fashion Indie magazine was never part of our original formula for growth, but when the opportunity presented itself to have a real presence offline we jumped at the chance. This first mini-issue is a sneak peek of what indies can expect from us in 2008. Shannon: What can we expect to see in the print version of Fashion Indie? Daniel: Fashion Goodness with a twist. We knew we wanted to focus on the local New York fashion world, but we wanted the perspective to feel likes its coming from a really hip friend leading you through her indie-fied world. Popular areas of the website like Designer Discovery, Street Indie, The Look, and Beauty Indie get their own featured sections and the magazine is filled with independent fashion news, style advice, and editorials. Basically, anyone who loves FashionIndie.com is going to love Fashion Indie Magazine. Shannon: Where will it be available for purchase? Daniel: Heres the best part. Its free. We noticed free mags like The L Magazine and Connected were really making waves and growing in ad sales. Also, there has never been a free fashion magazine dedicated to indies. So if you want it, head to stores like Harriets Alter Ego, Caravan or Edge NY. Or, you can shoot us an email and well be more than happy to ship you a free copy. Arent we sweathearts?!? Shannon: In your very first issue, is there a particular article that you are really excited about and cant wait for your readers to see? Daniel: For the first issue we decided to showcase one of our favorite labels, Love Brigade. Weve been following their careers and love their design stories. The interview was at the Williamsburg store and took place while we were filming them for a video were producing for Beauty & Fashion TV. It was a great space and their vision for fashion design is so refreshing that we knew we wanted them in the magazine. Youll have to read. Whats really cool is that Love Brigade agreed to stage a fashion show during our magazine launch party. So all our readers can discover them in person. Shannon: What is your ultimate vision for Fashion Indie, both the blog and magazine? Daniel: To be Vogue. No, wait to BEAT Vogue. Fashion Indie will be an empire. We are the source for the very best in emerging fashion. FashionIndie.com will grow with a directory, an online store, and social network in the works. Fashion Indie Magazine will go global with specific city guides in major cities like San Francisco, London, and Milan. We are currently producing made for TV segments for broadcast and plan to pitch pilots for indie focussed television shows in 2008. By 2010 we want to extend our online success to brick n mortar with Fashion Indies The Gallery, a hybrid store which will act as a selling space and office for Fashion Indie. After that who knows. Were too busy right now to think that far out.
